Bible Verses on Prayer from 1/26/14

This past Sunday, Pastor Todd shared with you several Bible verses on prayer. We are posting them here for you to reference. We hope you have a prayerful week.

James 5:16 (NLT-SE)

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.  17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years!  18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.

Amos 7:1 (NAS95S)

Thus the Lord 1GOD showed me, and behold, He was forming a locust-swarm  2when the spring crop began to sprout. And behold, the spring crop was after the king’s 3mowing.  2 And it came about, 1when it had finished eating the vegetation of the land, that I said,

“Lord GOD, please pardon!2How can Jacob stand,For he is small?”3 The LORD changed His mind about this.

“It shall not be,” said the LORD.

Amos 7:4 (NAS95S)   Thus the Lord GOD showed me, and behold, the Lord GOD was calling to contend with them by fire, and it consumed the great deep and began to consume the 1farm land.  5 Then I said,“Lord GOD, please stop! How can Jacob stand, for he is small?” 6 The LORD changed His mind about this. “This too shall not be,” said the Lord GOD.

Matthew 7:7 (NLT-SE)

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:9 (NLT-SE)

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

John 16:23 (NLT-SE)

At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. 24 You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.

John 14:13 (NLT-SE)

You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!

James 4:6 (NLT-SE)

God opposes the proud but favors the humble.

James 4:2b (NLT-SE)

Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.

James 1:6

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.  7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord

James 4:3 (NLT-SE)

3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

2 Corinthians 12:8 (NLT-SE)

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.  9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

Philippians 4:6 (NLT-SE)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
