I really don’t need to write to you about this ministry of giving for the believers in Jerusalem.* 2 For I know how eager you are to help, and I have been boasting to the churches in Macedonia that you in Greece* were ready to send an offering a year ago. In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving.
If someone were asked to play the word association and say the first word that comes to mind when they think of you, what would it be? What is the thing that most defines you? Now, let me ask, how do you feel about that? Is what you stand for something that builds up others and lays the foundation for faith or does it have another impact? Lots of questions I know…but they are important ones.
Paul “knew” how eager the Corinthians were to help the church in Jerusalem. It was simply a fact. And because of their eagerness other people grew eager to help too. I believe we have the same potential as the Corinthians to build others up and spur them to good works. But only if our words, deeds, and thoughts are focused on Christ instead of something else.
Gracious Lord, you are the reason we have hope. Your love for us became obvious while you were living on earth. May our love for you be obvious to others by how we live, speak, and think. In your name we trust, Amen.
